Austenitic stainless steel. Compared to the AISI 1.4301 type, the addition of molybdenum has improved the resistance to corrosion, especially in chloride-containing environments. By reducing the percentage of carbon (316L/1.4404) compared to the basic type 1.4401 (316), this quality is less sensitive to intergranular corrosion after welding. This quality is easy to form, easy to polish and has good corrosion resistance and good toughness properties. The machinability is moderate to poor. Quality 1.4404 is used in the food industry, dairy industry, but also in maritime environments, swimming pools and architecture.
